‘Grey Day..St Ives’
David Cox R.O.I., R.W.A., N.S. Born Falmouth 1914. Oil on Canvas,'Grey Day St Ives', circa 1930's. This calm picture of sailing boats and their reflections, in a misty St Ives harbour, is perhaps more reminisant of the Euston Road school of painting, than the St Ives School. It's subtle use of subdued colour creating a wonderful atmospheric painting. Complimented by it's original grey painted gilt frame.
Cox studied art in London, France and Italy. He exhibited at the R.A, N.E.A.C, R.B.A. etc etc. He has worked widely in Europe and has an international reputation as modern expressionist and colourist. He has also run his own art school for the past 25 years.
