This important firm was founded in 1753 by George Seddon I, and by 1786 employed 400 men. By the 3rd generation (Thomas II & George III) they were handling, with Nicholas Morel, a major commission to refurnish Windsor Castle to a value of £200,000, and were awarded a Royal Warrant in 1832. In 1853 the remaining partner Thomas II moved from Grays Inn Road to 67 New Bond St. Their signature "stiff lotus" carving (see the columns of this desk) is noted throughout the period from c. 1820.
